Bit of Paradise only Minutes from Home - Now Is the Season -Wildflowers on Lafayette's 'Bacon Hill'

When this old world starts getting me down
And people are just too much for me to face (Up on the  hill*)
I climb way up to the top of the stairs
And all my cares just drift right into space (Up on the hill*)

On the roof, it's peaceful as can be
And there, the world below can't bother me
Let me tell you now  (continued at bottom*) - King/Goffin

High atop 'Bacon Street hill' aka hideaway aka  Paradise in Lafayette CA. near Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek. Who says one must travel miles to find Paradise? We drove hours to Putnam Park and Bon Tempe Lake (Tamalpais), Marin County (which follow) which are no more picturesque than this, albeit more expansive.

This is the only human we saw on our entire walk and it was one of us!

Oops! We gave it away. Still hard to find, located near the 'Y' where Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill and Lafayette all come together. DIRECTIONS: Take the Pleasant Hll -Acalanes exit off 680 and go North on Pleasant Hill Rd and ttake the first right at Acalanes /High School and Shell Station and go about a mile, turn left on Bacon and go another half mile to the end where there are only two parking spaces (but usually more than enough). Go thru the gate across the street

Oh, there he his again - the last man on earth, or at least on Bacon Street Hill. And he's trying to keep

it a secret yet we're giving it away, per above directions.

Note how wild mustard follows the trail almost all the way along this  one mile trail 'undiscovered' trail, well above the grit and grime of the city. Here the air is still rarified with the smell of mustard and spring flowers.
Well, not sure the mustard smells but the Lupine and Poppies are starting to blossom. It's wildflower heaven up here nearly in heaven. Bring a picnic and enjoy! Oh, that's the 680 freeway below from which we're trying to stay away. Maybe we should have cropped the photo a couple inches higher to avoid.

Rare handful of poppies amidst the mustard and other early wildflowers this time of year

but poppies should spring up soon

Let me tell you now

When I come home feeling tired and beat
I go up where the air is fresh and sweet (Up on the roof)
I get away from the hustling crowds
And all that rat race noise down in the street (Up on the roof)

On the roof's the only place I know
Where you just have to wish to make it so
Let's go up on the roof (Up on the roof)

At night, the stars put on a show for free
And, darling, you can share it all with me
I keep-a tellin' you

Right smack dab in the middle of town
I found a paradise that's trouble-proof (Up on the roof)
And if this world starts getting you down
There's room enough for two up on the roof (Up on the roof)

Up on the roof (Up on the roof)
Oh, come on, baby (Up on the roof)
Oh, come on, honey (Up on the roof)
Everything is all right (Up on the roof)
